There is good content in this book for those seeking to sit down, read and learn about intermittent fasting in one day. While this is not a comprehensive book on intermittent fasting, I like how it covers a lot of the major topics and provides simple methodologies for those interested in giving it a shot. I personally have experience with intermittent fasting, where I lost close to 10lbs in 2 weeks, with a lot of it being water weight and the rest being fat but I did not have the will power to keep doing it long term...I love food too much! After reading this book, I highly recommend looking into books on the 5:2 diet, which is an effective form of intermittent fasting.

By Dan Glover I recently read an article on intermittent fasting as an alternative to the restriction of calories in extending lifespans in human beings. When a friend of mine sent me the link to this book I immediately purchased it. I am so glad I did! Author Jennifer Marshall lays out schedules for several different types of fasts and how they can result in a healthier you. Most people seem to believe fasting is harmful to the body but in fact it is quite the opposite. If you are looking to lose a little weight, or a lot, or like me are interested in extending your life span and living more quality years, buy and read this book!

A helpful basic reference By Mary Lopez he concept of fasting to lose weight isn't new, but it should somewhat be noted that before doing any modifications to your diet, you should always consult a physician or dietician. The book provided some basic ideas on how to achieve weight loss through intermittent fasting, either through a daily routine or a weekly routine. It had some interesting points regarding the benefits of the practice, which I plan to research further since there was no list of sources. Regardless, the book was well-written, basic and helpful all the same.

Straight talk about the Holy Spirit.

When the Holy Spirit is confined to creeds, the church becomes like a land with no water or a kite with no wind. In his life and writings, A.W. Tozer was insistent that the church reclaim a practical theology of the Holy Spirit—that it actually know Him.

The Counselor will help you cultivate sweet communion with God. Gifted at bringing lofty thoughts down low, Tozer explains clearly who the Spirit is and what it means to know Him. His words will leave you with a deep longing to be filled with the blessed Spirit, to have joy, peace, life, and power in Him.

"[The Holy Spirit] wants to be Lord of your life, to possess you so that you are no longer in command of the little vessel in which you sail.”

Tozer is a straight-forward book talking about the Holy Spirit. You will find no sugar-coating here, only straight talk on what the Bible says about the Holy Spirit. The author uses Bible scripture to show you what the Lord has to say about the Holy Spirit. We all need this closeness with the Holy Spirit that God wants us to have. Some of my favorite quotes from this book..."I believe that it might be well for us if we just stopped all of our business and got quiet and worshiped God and waited on him." page 72"All He wants is for us to yield, obey, open our hearts and He rushes in and our lives are transformed and changed!" page 76"honor Christ and the Holy Spirit will honor you" page 139I highly recommend this book to everyone. It is one that I will find myself returning to I am sure.I received a FREE copy from Moody Publishers in exchange for my honest review.

Excellent book on the Holy Spirit By Michael Harshman See my full review at: http://thechristianreviewer.blogspot.com/2015/12/moody-publishings-counselor-book-review.html"The Counselor: Straight Talk About the Holy Spirit" is a very engaging book to read. This book is actually an edited version of two of Tozer's other books. Those are "When He Comes" and "The Tozer Pulpit, Vol. 2". I have not had a chance to read those two books, but will at some point in the near future. The Counselor book is very well written and extremely insightful. It has very convicting points in it and Tozer does a great job of explaining who the Holy Spirit is, why we need Him and how we can have a relationship with Him. The book is laced throughout with many Scripture references that are very pertinent to the Holy Spirit and how we should be yearning toward a relationship with Him. I really liked how balanced and sound this book was regarding the topic of the Holy Spirit. Probably the best book on Him that I have read so far. I will be reading this book more than once for sure. It is going into the reference section of my personal library. Highly recommended to say the least. I received a copy of this book in exchange for this review from Moody Publishing and all opinions are my own

I have seen him quoted numerous times. I have finally read a book by him. Or, actually, this book is an edited version of two classics that Tozer wrote. It is still quotable, though! This book was not exactly what I expected. I thought that this book would be about how the Holy Spirit dwells inside of Christians and counsels them. The book, after all, is entitled The Counselor. Instead, this book talks about the importance of being filled with the Holy Spirit. Tozer addresses the question of why so many Christians or professing Christians are not filled with the Holy Spirit. He also discusses what being filled with the Holy Spirit looks like. What does being filled with the Holy Spirit mean, according to Tozer? As far as I can recall, Tozer in this book does not answer that explicitly. But he does talk about what being filled with the Holy Spirit looks like. He looks at the Book of Acts, in which the apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit. He also examines church history, as he refers to such examples as Martin Luther, John Wesley, and others. For Tozer, being filled with the Holy Spirit includes a variety of characteristics: joy, an intense hunger and thirst to know God, speaking with authority, God anointing one’s preaching so that it produces results, spiritual transformation, and knowing God through the Holy Spirit rather than through intellect. For Tozer, being filled with the Holy Spirit is not a process that stretches out over time. Rather, it is a single event of spiritual empowering. How does one become filled with the Holy Spirit, according to Tozer? There is another book by Tozer, How to Be Filled with the Holy Spirit, which may give more practical steps. But The Counselor does make significant points.Tozer says that the Holy Spirit exalts Jesus Christ, which implies that those who desire to be filled with the Holy Spirit must do the same. In discussing why so many professing Christians are not filled with the Holy Spirit, Tozer says that one desiring to be filled must surrender to God; so many Christians, by contrast, want to be in the driver’s seat when it comes to their lives. In some cases, Tozer states, people can arrive at a state of loneliness and desperation, and that opens them up to being filled with the Holy Spirit. To be filled with the Holy Spirit, one must be in agreement with God. Hatred, lust, and egotism are irreconcilable with being filled with the Holy Spirit, whereas praying for others with an attitude of kindness is the proper frame of mind for Christians to have. For Tozer, Christians need to clean up their thoughts and spend more time in the Bible, and that can set the stage for them to be filled with the Holy Spirit.Tozer interacts with other questions, as well. Is speaking in tongues a sign of being filled with the Holy Spirit? Tozer does not regard it as a necessary sign, for he observes that several Christian luminaries, such as Luther and Wesley, did not speak in tongues. Can one be a saved Christian without being filled with the Holy Spirit? Tozer does not address this question head-on, but he raises various considerations, some of which lead in different directions. He says that the disciples were converted before they were filled with the Holy Spirit. Sometimes, Tozer expresses agnosticism about whether the Christians he criticizes are genuine Christians; at other times, he is more skeptical.Tozer addresses certain Christian views in his day, views that he believes obscure the truth. On the one hand, Tozer is critical of those who believe that speaking in tongues is a necessary mark of being filled with the Holy Spirit. On the other hand, he is critical of the view that being filled with the Holy Spirit only related to the time of the apostles. Tozer rejects the view that the disciples were unconverted when Jesus was on earth, for he believes that many Christians use that position to excuse their own carnality. (Maybe Tozer is criticizing an attitude that I have encountered in evangelicalism: Look, Christ called imperfect disciples and used them for God’s glory, so that must mean that we do not need to worry about our own sinful imperfections!) Tozer believes that treating being filled with the Holy Spirit as a process rather than a single event likewise allows Christians to excuse their sins and their fears about being filled with the Holy Spirit. (They fear letting God be in the driver’s seat, or they are afraid of doing embarrassing things under the Spirit’s influence, or that God will place them in insecure situations.) And, as you can probably tell, Tozer did not care for the over-emphasis on grace, God’s unmerited favor for Christians, within Christendom.I found what Tozer said to be interesting, especially when he was critiquing Christian perspectives of his day and regarding some of those perspectives as excuses. I have to admit that I felt spiritual insecurity in reading this book, for a variety of reasons (i.e., wanting to run my own life, not feeling sure that I can obey God’s commands, not wanting to be obsessed with religion, as Tozer seemed to suggest that Spirit-filled people are). Still, I could identify, somewhat, with what Tozer said about the hunger to know God.Tozer could have been a little more pastoral in his tone. Rather than bragging (or so it seemed to me) about how he never holds a grudge, he could have offered advice to people who struggle with sins, or at least he could have expressed sympathy and understanding towards their situation.I was surprised that Tozer in this book never engaged Ephesians 5:18-21: “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God” (KJV). That passage seems to imply that being filled with the Holy Spirit is not just a one-time event, and it describes what being filled with the Holy Spirit looks like.In reading this book, I wondered if being filled with the Holy Spirit could occur outside of Christianity. Tozer would probably answer “no,” since he says that the Spirit exalts Jesus Christ. Still, there are mystics and ecstatic spiritual experiences outside of Christianity. Maybe they are more prominent within Christianity, but they do occur outside of it, as well.I hope to read more books by Tozer in the future.I received a complimentary review copy of this book from the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.

Abraham is one of thousands of children who fled on foot after enemies set fire to their villages and often killed their families. The children walked over a thousand miles across Sudan and Ethiopia, ending up in refugee camps in Kenya. During their march, they suffered from unending hunger and thirst, illness and injury. They had to keep alert for danger from lions, crocodiles, and enemy soldiers.

Although Abraham's faith falters at times during his journey, he later discovers that his trust in God grew during his desperate march.

Yost I found Desperate March to be a compelling account of the struggles that child refugees face. The author doesn’t gloss over the despair and questioning of his faith that Abraham experiences. Desperate March is an inspiring story of determination and trust in God in the midst of an extremely difficult journey.

We hear of terrible happenings in parts of the world that we can only imagine. These children had to endure the separation from their parents not knowing if they would ever see them again. Others were left as orphans when their parents were brutally killed by enemies of the Sudan. Untold numbers of these children marched from their villages over a thousand miles, suffering every step of the way. Ms. Yost takes us with them through the eyes of a boy named Abraham. She has captured the pain and the endurance of the soul to go on against all odds.

By Debra Allard I just finished reading Desperate March and found the story heart wrenching. The author relates the hardships of the young boys who lost homes and families during uprisings in Sudan. As the story moves along, the reader cannot put the book down due to worrying about what happened next to those poor children.. What they went through is beyond the imagination of people in many countries. I applaud Ms Yost for having the tenacity to enlighten the world about this atrocity. A well-written book that must be read with a tissue box nearby. I highly recommend it.

Humanizing PTSD and it Treatment I am not a machine or a list of symptoms in a statistical manual of diagnosis. I am a human being with human emotions who has been through situations nobody should ever have to experience. War does not appear to be avoidable and people who serve in the armed forces will always experience the trauma of war, which is very saddening. As a human being I hope to be treated as such with empathy and understanding for what I have experienced because I have not felt that type of connection in an amount of time that seems like forever. This book is a close up look at the decisions made and emotions felt by the human soldier as they experience combat. This is a work in teaching the way out of being in a war zone and returning home. This work is put together to allow the reader to learn from a casual discussion about what it was like, what happened and what it is like presently for the returning combat veteran. This is also an effort to help family, friends and professionals be connected with the combat veteran in a way no manual can produce. Written by a man who cares, understands as much as possible and cries intermittently, especially over the heroic gestures of the clients he calls “his guys.” With Love Rick

All was calm at present, but after a dozen years on the force, Tanner was no stranger to life's quick changes.A winter storm warning had advised local businesses to shut down for the day. Most had heeded the warning, but scattered bright windows said not everyone had closed up, despite the harsh conditions about to descend on Western New York.Typical, thought Tanner as he sipped his coffee. When he burned his tongue, he scolded himself and pushed to keep his mind on his work. Normally, that wasn't a big deal. Tanner lived his job.But with the first days of March looming? The next few days were always tough, a face-to-face reckoning with anniversaries he couldn't forget. And then the calendar mercifully flipped and time moved on.Lights shut off south of him as a short stretch of shops called it a day. There were always a few that stayed open till the last possible moment, then made a bad situation worse by trying to get home in rough winter conditions. Today's storm would be no exception, but as he scanned the interstate entrance to his left, the low volume of traffic said a lot of folks had paid attention this time. His peripheral vision caught something out of place. He swiveled in the driver's seat, sure he'd seen a blink of light that hadn't been there minutes before. He scanned the thin gray light of late afternoon to determine what he saw.Nothing seemed out of place.Focused, he set his coffee down and studied a group of buildings just south of the above-grade interstate entrance.Another blink of light pinpointed the action. But what was it? And why was it coming from that vacant building? He put the cruiser into Drive and headed toward the decrepit structure. Other than a long-established shoe shop run by an eccentric but knowledgeable distance runner, the neglected strip mall had sat empty for several years.Cops hated empty buildings. Empty buildings offered shelter for shady characters and an opportunity for foolish kids to create trouble. This scruffy stretch of decay had been slated for demolition twice. Both times, legal mumbo jumbo got in the way. Last he heard, some do-gooder had bought it for back taxes, promising the world. That was months ago, and so far, nothing had changed. Tanner reported his location and his intention, knew backup was on the way, and slipped into the parking lot at the far end by the shoe store.A lone car sat parked in front of the north-facing vacant building. He ran the plate and came up with the name of a rental car agency.Which meant whoever was inside didn't want to be traced.Trooper Zach Harrison pulled up alongside Tanner less than two minutes later. "What have we got?""That." Tanner pointed toward the messed-up building and just as he did, the bob of light shone from inside again."Car?" Zach jutted his chin toward the late model Chevy standing alone outside the building."Rented.""Of course."Tanner pulled his cruiser around to the front, tucked it into the corner and climbed out. Zach followed suit.As they drew close to the ratty storefront on the end, Tanner put his hand over his weapon, ready to defend himself. He nodded to Zach.Zach took flank and Tanner rapped hard on the door. The light flicked off, plunging the interior into darkness."New York State Troopers. Open up!" Nothing.Which meant whoever was inside was either scared…or dangerous. Tanner tried the door. Locked. He motioned to Zach.Zach nodded, started to move forward, then paused. He reached into his pocket, withdrew his phone, dropped his head back and sighed. "Julia, it's me. Get out here.Now."The light blinked on inside, and this time it stayed on.A key turned in the lock of the scuffed-up door. Tanner took a step back as the door swung his way. Julia—whoever she was—stepped out.Beautiful.Blond hair pinned up, great eyes, glasses tucked up into the hair and a look on her face that said she might be ready to kill someone. "You big lug. You scared me to death. What's the matter with you, coming looking for me like this? Is everything all right? Are the boys okay? Is it Dad? Or Jackson?" She clamped a hand on Zach's arm with a grip that said she wasn't afraid to take care of herself. "What's happened, Zach?""Him."She turned Tanner's way as if just noticing him."You?""The light." Tanner motioned toward the building interior. "You were flashing a light around and I came over to investigate. Zach's my backup.""So…" She drew the word out and looked up at Zach. "Nothing's wrong at home?""Not a thing."Zach looked a little too pleased to be throwing Tanner to the wolves…In this case a very pretty wolf."Do you mind telling us what you were doing in this building?" Tanner asked. She took her time shifting her attention from Zach to Tanner. "Because?""This building's been empty a long time. And there's a no-trespassing sign right there." He pointed just beyond Zach as he moved out of the way so she could see the sign. She saw it, all right. She walked right past them, and despite the cold, harsh wind, she reached up, grabbed the card-stock sign and yanked it down, then tossed it into the wastebasket fastened to the corner post of the building."Julia."Zach rolled his eyes, but he grinned, too, as if he thought her antics were funny. He turned to Tanner and waved as she moved back inside. "Tanner, my sister, Julia. Julia, this is Tanner Reddington. And stop giving him the evil eye. He's one of the good guys.""He was ready to shoot me," she protested, scowling. "Don't you guys have something better to do than bother a woman when she's trying to measure her new work space?"New work space?Tanner looked at her, then the grungy interior. "You're putting a store in here? Really? You must have some serious money you're willing to throw away. If that's your goal—" he raised his hands as if shrugging off the whole affair "—then this is the perfect investment property. I can't think of a worse place for a—"She didn't let him finish. Instead, she thrust her cell phone into his hand with the flashlight turned on. "A clinic, actually. Here. Hold this. We'll need light, and with you and Zach here I can get this done and get home."Bossy and quick, two things he disliked in a woman. "This is nuts. The storm's going to hit any minute.""I've been called worse." She made Zach hold one end of a measuring tape, then walked the other end to about half the length of the building. "Eighteen feet by thirty-five feet.""Am I supposed to remember this?" Zach asked. She brightened immediately. "Perfect, yes! Thank you. And now back here." She moved farther back into the shadows and counted off space, then had Zach help measure while Tanner stood still, the beam aimed in their direction. She nodded, called out two more numbers to Zach and moved back up front. "You guys packing flashlights?"Tanner withdrew his weapon and turned the flashlight on.Julia eyed the gun-and-flashlight combo and whistled. "That's some serious flashlight equipment right there."It was, and the attached light was sometimes a cop's best friend. She took her phone back and jotted numbers before tucking it away. "That's it.""For what?""If we get snowed in, I can sketch a floor plan over the next two days. Without the numbers, I'd be making assumptions.""You know there's a storm about to hit us?""Hence, my need for speed." Her cool look said her reasoning was obvious and he was crazy. Her quick dismissal made him want to read her the riot act about safety and good choices, similar to the one he dished out to the junior high health class a few days ago."What's with the rental car, Jules?" Zach moved toward the door, aiming his gun-mounted flashlight ahead so they could see their way out."My SUV got rearended by a drug salesman in a hurry to get home before the weather turned foul. It's going to be in the shop for a week at least.""Were you in it?" Concern laced Zach's question as Julia turned the key, then tested the door to make sure it locked."Nope, it was parked, but he did a number on it.""You know this sedan drives different on snow and ice," Zach reminded her as they stepped outside. "Don't expect it to respond the same way as your SUV.""I won't." She turned to face them while the brisk wind whipped tiny snowflakes through her upswept hair. "I'm heading straight home, and I'll go slow, although now that it's snowing, I'm missing my Forester big-time.""Just be careful. And who are you getting to do the work here?" Zach asked, and when she answered his question with a pert smile, he scowled. "I was afraid of that. You do know I have a wife and toddler at home, right?""Piper offered to help, actually, while Lucia watches Jack. She loves projects like this.""And what exactly is this project?" Tanner asked as he and Zach made sure her car started all right. "A clinic, you said?"Her happy answer made him want to turn tail and run, hard and fast. And not look back."A pregnancy center for the poor. We'll service folks who've slipped through the cracks or who've fallen on hard times, or just don't have the means to get things done. We hope to open within a month as long as we can get the setup work done. And while this doesn't look pretty now—" she jutted her chin toward the scruffy strip mall "—we can tackle the outside in the spring. For right now, clean and safe prenatal care is the plan."Something rose high in Tanner's throat. His heart, maybe? He'd made it a point to stay away from anything to do with pregnancy and women these past three years. He avoided hospital detail as if it were the plague, he never sat near people with kids—or those expecting babies—anywhere. Ever.He didn't need reminders of what he'd lost. It was there, every day, in the empty bed he used to share with a beautiful woman. His life, his love, his partner in all things. The extra bedrooms in the sprawling ranch home he'd finally sold over two years ago, his attempt to physically erase brick-and-mortar memories.Julia gave him an odd look, as if wondering what he was thinking, but then she waved, turned on the engine and headed toward the parking lot exit.Zach moved to his car. "Hey. It's cold and snowing. Why are you standing there? Let's go grab food at The Pelican's Nest and we can monitor calls from there."Tanner didn't want food. He didn't want to pretend this was okay.A pregnancy center, stuck in a boarded-up strip mall, right in the middle of his patrol zone.He waved Zach off as he climbed into his cruiser. "Not hungry, but thanks. I'll go back to my watch spot near the entrance ramp. That way I'm close if anything goes down at this end of the lake."Zach gave him a thumbs-up and shut his car door.Tanner climbed in more slowly. An hour ago he'd been sitting peacefully, watching conditions worsen, hoping for a quiet night. Now?He couldn't get Ashley and baby Solomon out of his mind. In less than twenty-four hours, he'd lost his wife and his premature baby boy, tiny and sweet, born too soon. His heart ached. He thought he was managing fairly well. Most days he did all right, but the three-year anniversaries were looming. He moved his cruiser back into position and stared at the low-slung buildings across the two-lane road. You'll be fine, his conscience assured him. You've done okay, it's time to move on.Tanner hated those words. Lame reassurances from people who hadn't suffered his kind of loss made him want to punch something. He kept a gym membership for that very reason.Sadness welled within him, but the sorrow had an angry side. A side that railed at God, at medicine, at the timing that changed his life while he'd sat powerless to help.Ashley gone. Their baby gone. Life alone.A call on the radio made him pull himself together. A car had gone off the road, just north of the Kirkwood Lake exit. He pulled out of his parking spot, cruised across the lake-spanning highway and headed for the snow-clogged ramp.Twin headlights stared off to the east, illuminating chunks of ice along the nearby shore. The car had spun off the bottom of the ramp. Tanner eased around the corner and idled the cruiser, lights flashing. Pulling his hat and gloves on, he hurried across the quickly deepening snow, his flashlight aimed ahead. The bright beam outlined a silver Chevy that looked familiar. And inside, watching him, was Zach Harrison's sister, Julia. He tried to wrench her door open. Nothing happened. She stared up at him, her gaze trusting."Can you open the window, Julia?" He shouted the words over the rush of wind. She shook her head.He tried to circle the car, but the passenger side was tipped down into the snow, lodged against the embankment. No access there. He came around front again and called Zach's phone. Julia's brother answered right away. "Julia's had an accident, she's trapped, she's not in danger, doesn't appear to be badly hurt, but I need her cell phone number. I can't talk to her through the window, the storm's too loud. And then get over here, we're at Exit 8, northbound on Lower Lake Road."Zach rattled off the number. Tanner heard him hit the siren before he disconnected, and the sound of an approaching ambulance or rescue vehicle told Tanner help was on the way.He dialed her number and waggled his cell phone for her to see.She looked startled when her phone rang, groped for it, then shook her head, dismayed. She can't find the phone. He tried again, hoping the ring tone would help her locate the cell. This time she zeroed in on the noise, stretched, and when she sat back up, the look of triumph on her face said she had the phone.Yes.He dialed again and she answered quickly. "I'm stuck."

By Vince No one gets real like Ruth Logan Herne gets real!Herne is a fearless author who takes on topics rarely tackled in romance. The themes already covered have been death, dying, hospice, a hero and heroine both challenged by breast cancer trauma , death in childbirth, unwed motherhood in the less forgiving 1950's, child molestation and infidelity. It seems that no topic is too difficult for Herne to make into a genuine, heartwarming, inspirational romance. In a sense, I feel as if Ruth Logan Herne is picking up where Francine Rivers left off with her very successful, "The Atonement Child" -- a book which no one thought could be published in Christian romance.Because her topics are hard, Herne's stories ring true. A reader can feel like he or she is reading something meaningful. Like literature. The reader can also experience a deeper sense of the HEA "happily ever after" because the conflict ran so deep. This has always been my personal experience.I've read all the author's books. When her first book came out, "Winter's End", which was about hospice, I called her brave new writing approach 'Romantic Realism'. Indeed, the author's books are as real as any writer can get and still deliver a happy ending -- as required by true romances.Caveat: if you see a "Dear Reader" letter in the back of a Herne romance, grab a tissue because you are going to find out the story is taken from real life. You may meet the real person who inspired the story. This is what 'Romantic Realism' is all about. In "Healing the Lawman's Heart" you have a hero and heroine who have real conflicts that should definitely keep them apart. After losing his wife and child the hero, Tanner Reddington , can't bear to see babies or pregnant women without experiencing great pain. In fact, he moved to a new work area to be in a more remote part of New York state. The heroine, Julia Harrison, is a midwife, with 'man' pains of her own. She is planning to open a baby clinic in the most dangerous location in town. A very bad location which is right in the middle of the hero's remote patrol area.Being a hero, Tanner promply rescues Julia, time and again, and setting in motion an emotional push/pull conflict that only grows stronger as the story progresses.Well, you get the idea. This is another great, high conflict, ultra emotional, romantic drama that races towards a supercharged HEA! This is a very clever plot device because the greater the attraction between the hero and heroine becomes, the stronger the conflict becomes pushing them apart! As much as I love this author's work, I sure wish she'd write one romantic comedy to give me a breather. In addition: this story is part of the Kirkwood Lake series so if you've been reading this series all along, you meet some old friends which I always find enjoyable.Romantic Realsim as only Ruth Logan Herne Can Do it!Highest Recommendation!

Tanner and Julia are wounded people who have faced some of the worst life can offer but thankfully, they're both survivors. Though, honestly, their ways of coping needs some improvement. Watching them find their way through past hurts and into each others' arms makes for a stirring read. Especially when the tale is told with Herne's trademark panache -- heart-tugging scenes of emotional discovery interspersed with cute kids, even cuter animals, and a host of secondary characters you'll love as much as the hero and heroine. Oh, and she always adds in a measured dose of snark. The perfect combination for a memorable love story that will lift your spirits even as it entertains.

Both Tanner Reddington and Julia Harrison are trying to come back, but memories and issues of trust keep getting in the way. Tanner begins to wonder if Julia and her family can heal his broken heart. When an orphaned baby arrives, he has to decide what he wants his future to be. Can love and God help him and Julia build a new life? For this book I needed Kleenex at times. Ruth has a way with getting you emotionally involved with her characters and what happens to them. Another great story in Kirkwood Lake.

The author puts himself in the place of the bible characters and writes prayers as he imagines they would have prayed in their circumstances. Very thought provoking and gives a different insight into prayer and the bible,

I met my first love, the love of my life, in a group home. Scott and I only had each other; he was my everything! He left with a promise to return, but he broke his promise and my heart. Scott shattered my soul and nearly destroyed me. I wanted to die, but I was saved by a man who loves me, protects me, takes care of me, and worships me. I still yearn for my first love. When Scott returns, I’m faced with a decision… Do I choose what's right or what seems right, but is wrong? Do I choose safe love or runaway love? Someone will be hurt when my past meets my present… This is my story, my life… Can I handle it?  What Some Readers Already said about the book: "I just loved this story of a love that was lost!!" 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Runaway Success By Teacher Tina This is Pamela Washington's debut novella, and I must say I'm so glad I took a chance on this new author! I hope you take a chance, too! I'm already really excited to see what stories Pamela comes up with next!Runaway Love pulled me in from the very beginning and made my emotions go all over the place. One moment I feel sorry for the characters, then I really like them, then I hate then, and then I like them again! Throughout the story, I was sad, happy, crying, disgusted, happy, laughing, wondering WHY would she do that?!?, and sad, upset, and happy again. Phew! Yes, my emotions feel as though they've been on a spin cycle!Grace, the main female character, has deep-rooted psychological trauma from her childhood spent in foster care. She never knew what it felt like to be belong to a family or to be loved or even to love until she meets a fellow foster teen, Scott, and falls in love. He ends up shattering her world, so when she becomes an adult and marries Tony, a man who truly loves and accepts her, she isn't sure how to handle that and can't accept that happiness. When her first love shows up in her life again, more drama ensues in her life as she is forced to make a decision...Runaway Love is a quick and easy read, but it is not quick and easy to forget. Readers will find themselves taking sides, then switching sides, over and over again as Pamela peels back the layers of her characters. Each scene lets readers learn more about the characters and understand them better. Nothing is as it seems, and readers will be surprised by what happens and by the choices that are made.I recommend this book if you are looking for an enjoyable quick read that makes you become involved in the characters' lives. This is a twist on the traditional love triangle where there isn't an obvious right or wrong choice...the heart wants what the heart wants, regardless of who gets hurt.Runaway Love is told from Grace's viewpoint, so I can't wait until the next two books come out! I'm excited to get into Tony and Scott's heads and understand their points of view! I know Pamela Washington has more up her sleeve as she continues taking readers in this runaway ride!Give Runaway Love a chance, let Pamela know if you're #TeamTony or #TeamScott! I'm #TeamTony, by the way - love him!!!!!

When she was young she fell in love with Scott, she loved him with all her heart, but life isn't pretty. He left. When he left her in her life came Tony, he showered Grace with attention and helped her whenever she needed it. And she fell in love with him. Everything looked perfect until Grace saw her first love. She wanted to meet him, to ask him why he never came back. And this is a place where I was gasping and screaming at my kindle! It sucked me in. This story has so much unexpected turns that I can't find right words to describe it! I wanted to hug Tony and slap Grace. Then I wanted to hug Grace and kiss Tony.

Do I choose safe love or runaway love By Lmmm ***Received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review***"Do I choose what's right or what seems right, but is wrong? Do I choose safe love or runaway love?"Grace is a woman who have felt nothing but loneliness and rejection until he met Scott in foster care. Scott was her first love- the first person who made her feel loved, understood and worthy."He brought light into my dark world. He brought light into my dead soul. For the first time in my life, I felt like I mattered to someone, like I belong."When the time came for Scott to leave, Grace never doubted his promise that he would return for her- that someday they would have a future together full of contentment, stability and love. However, Scott did not came back and Grace had to rebuild a life and plan a future with Scott no longer on it.When Grace's world shattered, she met Tony. He was a man who loves her beyond reason, a man who takes care of her and a man who will never leave her."... I know he saved me from my insecurities and deepest fears"Ten years later, Grace is now a wife and a mother, happily settled and contented in life. Everything seems perfect, until she was again reminded of her first love and realized that she is still waiting for him to come back into her life. Without second guessing nor guilt, Grace contacted Scott and soon past issues and buried feelings were unravel as they saw each other for the first time after 10 years.Runaway Love is a short yet unforgettable read. It will surely pull the readers as they join Grace in her roller coaster journey of choosing between loyalty to a man who has given her everything and desire to a man she must not have. This book made me experience conflicting emotions, there were times that I would just like to scream at Grace, Tony or Scott. However, there are still moments that I want to comfort them and protect them. Overall, RL is a wonderful debut for author Pamela Washington who was able to produce an emotional and page turning story that will leave readers wanting for more.

Review "All types of knowledge ultimately leads to self-knowledge. So, therefore, these people are coming in and asking me to teach them, not so much how to defend themselves or how to do somebody in. Rather, they want to learn to express themselves through some movement, be it anger, be it determination, or whatever. So, in other words, they're paying me to show them, in combative form the art of expressing the human body." —Bruce Lee"I suggest you read this book and use it to motivate yourself to pursue whatever goals you strive for in life. Here is the record of a man who had to overcome his own obstacles in life, and who achieved success because he believed in himself. Perhaps you can use this inspiration to achieve your own success. Even now, I feel Bruce's presence and he still motivates me to this day. When I'm lifting weights…I max out my workout by doing one more rep for the old man upstairs, and then do one for Bruce. It never fails!" —Allen Joe, from the Foreword"The Bruce Lee Library stands as a definitive presentation of Bruce Lee's magnificent legacy. Each volume belongs on the bookshelf of every serious martial artist." —Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do Nucleus"The Art of Expressing the Human Body, the fourth volume in Tuttle's Bruce Lee Library, is attributed to martial arts titan Bruce Lee, but he is referred to throughout in the third person. Editor John Little has, however, produced a fitness book based closely on Lee's own exercises and beliefs, illustrated with pictures of the master in action" —Publishers Weekly"…Bruce Lee books are now also available in ebook format…That's great, it's nice if you're traveling to take everything with you in one little small container so-to-speak." —Martial Thoughts Podcast"His teachings (some of which were captured in his book The Art of Expressing the Human Body) served as the basis for many subsequent popular training and fitness programs such as Tae Bo and P90X." —Bruce Y. Lee, Forbes

About the Author John Little is considered to be one of the world's foremost authorities on Bruce Lee. He's the only person who has ever been authorized to review the entirety of Lee's personal notes, sketches and reading annotations, giving him an insider's look at Lee's training methods and philosophies. He's shared this information with Lee's fans in his books published by Tuttle Publishing, including: Bruce Lee: Artist of Life; Jeet Kune Do: Bruce Lee's Commentaries on the Martial Way; Letters of the Dragon; The Tao of Gung Fu: A Study in the Way of Chinese Martial Art; Striking Thoughts: Bruce Lee's Wisdom for Daily Living and Bruce Lee: The Celebrated Life of the Golden Dragon.

Unexpecting By Miyagi Senpai Some people may be skeptical about Bruce Lee as a martial artist, bodybuilder, fitness enthusiast, etc. But in reality one need not be a fan to understand the brilliance to his methods. The book always emphasizes that Bruce was all about changing things, looking and trying all aspects, then deciding what stays and what is unnecessary. Like chiseling away the pieces of stone to carve a statue. After having done extensive research into bodybuilding, fitness, martial arts, Asian Medicine, Eastern Philosophy, exercise physiology, and dietetics I can honestly say that this book is very advanced. What I mean by this is that one has to do his/her own research to decide about the methods outlined. Indeed some of the research is outdated. For example the couplings of incomplete proteins and complete is slightly flawed in logic. However, you must not forget these methods were employed way before large advances were made in the way of sports nutrition and supplementation. In the training aspect any normal human would indeed be overtrained. But the body is a magnificent creation and can adapt to anything that it encounters. Shaolin Monks, Ultra Runners, Olympic Gymnasts... they all do things that would overtrain any of us normal people. But they are not overtrained. Indeed Bruce had trained long and hard to become as resilient as such.As someone who has done a little Personal Training I have to say that his development when he started lifting weights showed his ability to adapt. His body became very muscular very quickly. However, for those who think steroids were his thing... they were not. Not only did he believe in the natural way he also believed that a bulky body will decrease flexibilty and overall speed and endurance. So he actually lost muscle for the sake of being a better martial artist. At this time the only available steroids were things such as testosterone and Dianabol. Bulking agents. (Yes, some steroids build mass and others build power. Some even build endurance by producing erythropoetin but they weren't invented until the mid 70s. The most famous came into vogue in the 80s.) The pills he was seen popping so often were often amino acid pills. My overall advice about this book? Get some training under your belt whether it's in body building, endurance running, martial arts, etc. Then read this book. It will bring you to the starting point to try and take your body to the next level. Anyone can be an armchair quarterback, but to get out there and try is much more practical.Keep using and changing the things that challenge you and make a positive difference. Take away the things that do nothing or take away from your goals. If you're a body builder maybe running two miles a day every morning will be detrimental (Although for one who lives in Texas it actually helps keep him in the right shape to do his intense powerlifting/body building hybrid training). For an endurance runner perhaps having well conditioned forearms that enhance the hooking techniques of Wing Chun isn't necessary for running a marathon better. But for a martial artist perhaps a more conditioned midsection to enhance kicking and punching power might be of benefit to you. Or the added cardiovascular endurance to fight for 5 rounds instead of three. As for the nutrition... remember. The only part that you have to remember is to eat foods that benefit you towards your goal and not eat foods that don't. Moderation is key as well. (A few cups of tea a day can make a LARGE difference)As a personal experience... I used this book to not only increase the power of my midsection, but also to help lower my bodyfat, decrease my 2 mile time, strengthen my grappling ability, enhance my muscle mass, increase my energy, and also to reinstill that feeling of wanting to experiment. To find what works and what doesn't. The book is the gateway and not the means to an end. After applying the priniciples that suit you... it is up to you to keep learning new ways to keep improving. If anyone is curious... I am a martial artist, body builder, dietician, Buddhist (born into the temple itself), scientist, and a sports nutritionist. And yes... I practice what I believe is necessary for improvement. Including the practice of taking a day off to eat anything, not train, not think, and just enjoy time with the people who matter in my life.

The author has great sources that he got the material from, since some of the pictures are of actual notes that Lee himself wrote. Lee worked extremely hard to get his body in the near-perfect shape that it was in, and this book describes how he did it. This book contains alot of material that was previously unavailable before to anyone wanting to know how Lee trained, what he ate, how he taught his students how to train, what his views were on exercise, cardiovascular training, stretching, and most important, how to develop power from your workout. His training was based on his martial arts influence, as he always searched for ways to improve himself in his own martial art of Jeet Kune Do (JKD). This book shows how he incorporated various exercises and his training regimen during various parts of his life to constantly change and adapt to what he felt would benefit him the most at that particular time. If he felt he needed more endurance, he would incorporate more running and punching the heavy bag, if he felt he needed more quickness and speed, he would do more speed drills, jump rope, etc. An excellent book to learn more about how Lee trained himself and his students to get in the best shape of their lives, and also an example and inspiration to other who exercise and try to keep fit. Of course, if you want a book to show you "how" to workout with weights, then this is not the book for you, but if you want to learn how to improve your overall self through exercise, diet and training, then this is an excellent book.

Long thought of as simply the pinnacle of martial arts, many fans and non-fans alike are discovering that Bruce Lee was also a thoughtful and profound philosopher. Even in this volume of the fantastic Bruce Lee library, you will find tremendous philosophy and insight by Bruce Lee, as retold by his friends and students. Mr. Lee saw exercise as "The Art of Expressing the Human Body," and he went to great lengths to craft his body--not for appearance--but for functionality. His circuits, weight routines, calisthenics, and cardiovascular workouts are just a few of the things detailed in this clearly exhuastively researched book. It reads quite well, and I have never worked harder at improving my own body as I have when I was actively reading this book. This is a *must* for all martial artists, and a fantastic book for anyone who needs any motivation to work out. Bruce Lee's example is all you need to really get moving.

By Wren Marie Rivers changes up the pace of her Shifter's Ranch series by introducing Kyra Henderson, Big Sky Ranch's owner's daughter. She's sassy, she's witty, and she was a ton of fun to get to know while I read My Wolf Protector! Jake was great as well. Very unique and original. Although this isn't my favorite of Rivers' books, it was still a freaking FANTASTIC read. All of Christy's books feel complete and WHOLE despite the few pages. I am a HUGE, HUGE fan of her refreshing novellas and I can't wait to read more!I really liked how different this piece was. I won't give anything away, but it was definitely different. The development was wonderful. The description and the genuine, sincere authenticity of the characters that Rivers creates always blows my mind. She is a MASTER storyteller and I cannot wait to see what she creates next!

I signed up to read this book through Lola's blog tours and my only regret is that I have to wait a month for the conclusion of the series. The second installment in the Twisted Cedars series, Forgotten follows Dougal Lachlan as he is drawn into the powerful mystery surrounding his hometown. This time, a new comer is thrown into the mix and Dougal is on a path he would rather not head down. Refusing to give the emailer feeding him information the power to force a story out of him, Dougal stays in his cottage, but decides to derail his non-fiction by proposing to his agent to write something a little less true and (in his mind) a lot more compelling. But, as he ventures away from his true calling, things in Twisted Cedars begin to go awry and Sheriff Wade MacKay is left with more work than he knows what to do with. Then comes the pretty, but banged up Jane Doe to town and the course is set for the perfect amount of mayhem to draw Dougal back into the world of investigative writing. With the details piling up against his former friend and brother-in-law Kyle Quinpool, Dougal develops a theory, one he prays is wrong and leaves him with no choice but to reestablish a relationship with the sister he barely tolerated as a child.I can't say more without ruining the end, but OMG, the plot twists, the subtle turns, the added layers of mystery with the turn of every gripping page... AMAZING! Again, this is a cliff-hanger, but I find myself excited about the month before the release of Exposed. I want to mull this story over a bit and re-read it again in a few days (YEP. IT'S THAT GOOD) just to catch the things I know CJ Carmichael stuck in that I might have missed. This is one for the read many times shelf. I cannot say enough how I enjoyed this book and cannot wait for Exposed! This is a true 5 star read as it is a well-crafted mystery that will leave you wanting more!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. And the story continues.... By Amazon Customer This book is essential to resolve the previous book. However, it ends in yet another quandary. And you may as sell get all three books at once, and read them as one, because they are. Just published as a serial. The villain is among the worst I've seen, there is plenty of love for children, the whole village comes together...and there is heartbreak, and sorrow. And suspense. And moral lessons.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. suspenseful enough to keep me awake too late By DKS I was excited to read more about these characters and delve deeper into the mystery that haunts them. The plot twists were as merciless as a coastal Oregon road. Well done, Ms. Carmichael.
