Churches supply so many with a beacon of hope and a ray of sunshine"The author has opened a door to a in-depth spiritual, eye opening journey, of who are the people behind the crosses, that they wear. And will ask a personal and direct question, of who is behind, the cross that you wear. There were spaces and some chapters in this book, that were so profound in which I felt compelled in my heart to read twice, some three times. In the author's ( preface) he stated.Be prepared to embark on a journey and subject matter that your Sunday school won't teach, and your preacher will by no means talk talk about.(Truer words have not been spoken)Mr. Alston is the eldest son of a Pastor, he held a career of over 30 years, in executive management, until his retirement which brings in his precise business expertise. Mr.Alston has held various church board positions, Pastor of church administration and church corporate affairs, being the most recent.A philosophical approach, the author used in Church and business."In this life we are either in a problem, headed to a problem, are coming out of the problem." this is the cycle of life's challenges in the carrying of our crosses."A 3 times award winner for his book titled, No More Mr. Nice Guy, which I also had the pleasure of reading, and would recommend as an astounding must read.Impressively. Mr. Alston; stated he came out of silence, to write because of the love of his mother ,The pastor of ( The Tabernacle Church) and the endearment he has for the congregants.Mr. Alston writes very candidly, of his experiences in regards to his motherThe Pastor of ( The Tabernacle Church)" The Family has been hoodwinked running around in a circle scratching our heads not for years but for decades.Mother built her ministry and church on the sacrifice, of her children's reputation not knowing how or wanting to repair what she and the inner circle had broken."Mr. Alston's; intent for writing this book, is to correct a moral wrong, the desire for church, transparency, also for churches to step up their game.He felt led in his heart, in my words;(To honor his God-given mandate/ responsibility) in assisting and lending a voice, to the broken hearted.I personally commend, Mr.Alston ability to remain transparent. while writing this book, he opens the door throughout the book, of many of his own personal experiences, while painting a vividly clear picture and giving the reader a direct close-up look into many painful details that seemingly go along with being a Preacher Kid.Mr Aston, used the example;" in order to be or maintain membership at The Tabernacle Church, you must submit yourself to mother 100 percent"I must confess that I cheated when reading this book, The first chapter I read was chapter 22, entitled ( In honor of a fallen soldier)The author told a solemn yet true story, of young lady named Andrea; who was loved by many and a key member of (The Tabernacle Church)Andrea had been diagnosed with Breast Cancer.Although Andrea's doctor had pleaded with her to have surgery, she refused. Andrea had been told by her Pastor, that God was going to heal her." Andrea placed absolute 100 percent of her faith into a leadership regime that let her down. Her words where, The pastor, The church leadership, and other leaders said, " God was going to heal me.""she looked death in the face right up until her demise, standing firm as to what the ministry had prophesied."" Andrea's death was premature due to her victimization to a church leadership regime.Andrea placed her life on the line and into the hands of a church leadership regime's prediction that her outcome would be victorious.Andrea was courageous, staying the course, and stood her ground with what the church leadership regime said.Andrea left behind a husband and a young son."The authors passion for God's people, is exemplify, even in his introduction & throughout his text.Because of the love the author carries for Gods people, he explains how hurt he felt when he would observe them being abused." It bothers me when believers invest their. mind, heart, soul, money, and faith into a church, only to be exploited by the leadership regime."The author also goes into great detail, for the absolute need of accountability, among church leaders, he gives countless examples of church leadership, gone rogue."The idea that accountability does not apply, to ministers and the powerful is sometimes a reality. Most parishioners are convinced that their minister is incapable of any wrongdoing.""How countless Congregants have been trained and brainwashed, not to question the church leadership regime's motives and or behavior."The author goes on to state, thatcongregations in turn, should not require their ministers to walk on water, instead lift them up in prayer. He brings to the spot light a paramount fact ~ ministers are human." We must encourage our ministers, to do the right thing through respectful accountability.""Be aware of preachers using Jesus as the boogeyman, as if Jesus is the villain who is going to get you if you don't do what he or she says.""often these regimes will openly instruct or forbid parishioners to questions God. Meaning whatever they do is ordained of God. Leading members to the illusion, that whatever the leader does is of God."" in abusive church, the use of guilt and intimidation to control members is likely to produce members who have low self~image. Who feel beaten down by legalism, who have been taught that asserting oneself is not spiritual."The book invoked many of my most inner emotions, as a grandmother of 7 whom are the wind beneath my wings & the air that I breathe.Although I understood what the author wrote, I personally could not grasps, the fact that a mother could possibly feel this way."Mom believed if something should happen to the begotten children, it's a grandparent should not, and we're not to raise their grandchildren. She said God did not create parents to raise a second set of children.Mom over the years has made known her posture to be inside family and nonprincipled in family value."I could go on and on about this book I hesitate to say too much, because I would like the next reader to be able to experience, this journey as I did one page at time.I would personally recommend, this phenomenal book, not only to the churches broken hearted as well intended,I would also strongly suggest, it to be used as a blueprint in assisting Church leaders, as well as the individuals, whom are looking to start a church, assistant pastors, co- pastors, church advisors & spiritual counselors, not to exclude, those in-charge of church groups/ departments, both large and small. To be used to help usher, those that are broken hearted, for those that remain in denial, of bring broken hearted. For the countless numbers of those, that yet do not have a voice, for those that are not allowed to have a voice, for those that cry out, in their darkest hour, looking for an answer and a complete understanding, of the unconditional, love that Christ has for each of us."There is a downside by suppressing the truth in order to deceive, and that is the loss of creditability to the Word of God."

I mean you think you know what you, and who you are until you find out the RAW TRUTH. It's definitely hard to grasp when these people are who you have grown to know and LOVE all your life. I want to thank you James Alston. For letting the truth be known, for telling what the naked eye cannot see, for giving my mother, my siblings and I a voice. It has been a very long and emotional journey for us but after reading this book I we have a different outlook. People just don't know what a preachers kid goes through. All they can see is the outside, being blind to the fact that we are human beings with feelings and emotions as well. Blessings to you on your every endeavor. Thanks again.

Let My People Think By Jennifer Howard This type of book can only be written by someone that has come to terms with himself, his relationship with God, and his relationship with others. He challenges us to THINK about what it means to be a Christian. This author simultaneously exposes truth, expounds wisdom, and encourages believers. This semi-autobiographical work will be considered controversial and subversive but those who understand the true nature and history of Christianity know that without these qualities Christianity would not exist.
