Sweet Western Novella By Sheila M "I'm in desperate need of a hero."THE STORY: Andrea Jackson is a writer of dime novels who comes to the western town to meet Sheriff Matthew Knight in order to have him star as the hero of her new series of novels. Matthew knows that he is no hero and doesn't want anything to do with the project by the strong willed woman. A deal between the two, results in the two finding out more about one another than they expected.OPINION: This novella is sweet and the dance that goes on between Andrew and Matthew is sweet. This novella feels too short and I think that this could have easily have been a longer novel. The story has an unexpected twist that once revealed gives what happens previously more meaning. (Don't read spoilers!) Finding out the twist is half the fun of the story. The two characters are interesting although there is a lot going on for such a short novella. I liked both of the characters and really liked the way the story ended.WORTH MENTIONING: THE RELUCTANT HERO was originally published as part of the anthology MY HEROES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN COWBOYS.FINAL DECISION: Short and sweet, this book has a twist that gives the story more depth than it first appeared to have.CONNECTED BOOKS: This is a standalone novella.STAR RATING: I give this novella 4 stars.

What more could I ask for. And Matthew was “a reluctant hero,” just like the title of the book says. Matthew was everything a hero is supposed to be, even if he didn’t think so. And, even though Andi left him when she found out the truth she came around in a super big way. She and Doctor John Martin sure saved Matthew's hind-end. I love westerns and this was a good one.There was a little sexual tension between Matt and Andi, and the one sex scene was nice. The sex was not overly descriptive but it was there. There wasn’t any kind of body parts mentioned so I think it would be ok with you prudes that don’t want sex in their books. I don’t know, it might still be too much.Anyway, it was a really sweet story and I liked it, as I do all of Ms. Heath’s books, of which I’ve read 5 or 6, maybe more.

Its a fast read, but really good. There were a couple of surprises in this one....and yeah the hero was reluctant with reasons. I rcommend anything she writes as I have read them all!

There is no greater way in which He has done that than in His Son, Jesus Christ. This book is amazing at looking specifically at Jesus in the Old Testament - a much ignored part of Scripture when dealing with Christ. Make no mistake, most people aren't afraid to point out Christ in prophecy or types,(which two chapters in the book are dedicated to, and rightly so) but this book goes beyond that, and does a great job in the process. More than just pointing to Jesus, Van Dorn masterfully actually SHOWS Jesus in the pages of the Old Testament in various ways:The Angel of the LORDThe Word of GodThe Name of the LORDThe Wisdom of GodThe Son of GodThe Glory of GodThe Right Arm of GodAlthough short, this is one of the book's best attributes. It allows the reader to take on this theology without being overwhelmed, and it is formatted perfectly for a Bible Study or Sunday School class. There are questions at the end of each chapter for review, and also for promoting more thought about the subject. Whether this is something new to you, or you've studied it for a long time, everyone will find something edifying and exciting in this book. As with his other books, Van Dorn has researched this topic extensively, as the works cited section shows. This is no "scarlet thread" typology, but rather a researched, responsible, and fascinating look at the second person of the Trinity as He personally shows up in the Old Testament. It will make you rethink how you should read the Old Testament, and that's a good thing! Gone are the days where the stories of the Old Testament are mere Aesop's fables. Highly recommended for both the pastor and the layman who want to see more of Jesus, or who want to understand the Old Testament better!

Excellent, accessible, overview of seeing Jesus in the Old Testament By elnwood In From Shadows to the Savior, Pastor Doug Van Dorn tackles a difficult, controversial, but important issue: where is Jesus in the Old Testament? Van Dorn's emphasis in the book is that Jesus is not only anticipated in the Old Testament, but actually appears in the Old Testament.The book is organized into several chapters, each about six to twelve pages long. The first topics are pretty familiar: Christ in Prophecy, Christ in Typology, and Christ and the Law. "Christ in Prophecy" is excellent, and focuses on Isaiah 53. My only reservation in this chapter is that passages like Isaiah 7:14 and Hosea 11:1 are not as clearly prophetic as others, and deserve more attention. "Christ in Typology" is an excellent overview of the anticipation of Jesus in both the Old Testament characters and in the Old Testament sacrifices."Christ and the Law" is where things start get interesting. Van Dorn focuses on Jesus as the law-giver in the law of Moses, Christ being the mediator of the law (Gal 3:19-20). I thought this was a very profound way of seeing Jesus in the law. I was disappointed by David Murray's treatment of Christ and the Law in Jesus on Every Page. Murray argued for seeing Jesus in the law because the Mosaic Covenant was a Covenant of Grace, which I thought was abstract and a somewhat forced interpretation.The rest of the book focuses on appearances of Jesus in the Old Testament. Van Dorn reveals how when the Old Testament speaks of the Angel of the Lord, the Arm of the Lord, the Wisdom of God, and even the Glory of God, that these have Jesus himself in mind. These were especially helpful, as they are not as intuitive for Christians, but Van Dorn's exegesis and exposition are sound and persuasive.One of the things that I learned was that Jude 1:5 speaks of Jesus as the one who saved the Israelites out of Egypt. There is a textual variation in this passages, so many translations don't have it (KJV) except as a footnote (NIV, HCSB, NASB), but others (ESV, NLT, NET) do, and I think that is correct,Overall, I think this book is an excellent, accessible book on Christ in the Old Testament. Van Dorn sees more Christ in the Old Testament than others, but I don't think he overstates his case. It compares favorably against David Murray's book, which was not as concise or profound. I appreciate that Van Dorn has written a work that exhibits understanding of these very complex issues, but presents them in a way that is clear and understandable. I will recommend this book first to others looking to study this issue,

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The Logos in the Old Testament By Nicholas A. Kennicott Douglas Van Dorn has written a very helpful, simple book on Christ in the Old Testament. Many Christians today don't see much beyond a few prophetic glimpses of who Christ WILL be when he arrives in the New Testament, but Van Dorn goes to great lengths to show that Christ Himself, the second person of the Trinity, the Logos is, in fact, in the Old Testament. He's not just promised and foretold, he is present. This is a fascinating walk through a study that can literally change your life and will absolutely change the way you read the Bible forever. Supported with solid exegesis and pastoral wisdom, Van Dorn's work is sure to be a tremendous help to laymen and scholars alike. It would be a fantastic study for a small group.

Sophie, the love of his life who has a very successful life making expensive handbags. She moves to L.A. and the story gets very interesting. Must read this book as it could be the last of the Texas Titans Series.

From the Inside Flap "Are you going to behave yourself?" he heard Piper ask. She was talking to Charlie, but he mentally answered with a beleaguered, I'll try. Charlie was acting like he hadn't seen her in days. She bent to pet him and her shorts snugged her backside, making Bastian itch to take his time fondling and getting to know those bare thighs and plump cheeks. He swallowed another gulp of cold water. "If you bark, Mrs. Clements will tell me. Don't think I won't find out. Hear me? Ready?" she asked Bastian as she straightened, cheeks flushed, gaze skittering away from his. She might not be interested, but she was definitely feeling the chemistry. He patted for his wallet and nodded, silently letting out a slow breath as he took in the way her shirt hugged her breasts. Not heavy, but very nice. He came to the door, but she didn't move. "I'll just, um," she edged around him in the small laundry room, taking a key off the hook behind his shoulder, giving him a whiff of girly smells and toothpaste. "Wait a sec before you lock it." She grabbed a handful of kibble and stepped outside to throw it into the lawn. One foot came up and so did her shorts as she leaned over the rail, exposing even more of the backs of her thighs. Dear God. Was she trying to kill him?

Alas, I do not.This is a good story but its nearly the same regurgitated story about a virginal girl and man-slut falling in love. She is the reason he is redeemed. I love the perspective flipping back and forth between Bastian and Piper. The author is very adept at making the personality of the narrator come through. The story felt at times to be incomplete and rushed through some parts or bypassed details entirely. For instance, Bastian talks A LOT about his parents and the book just totally skips his sister's wedding. That sort of thing happened a couple of times. It was bizarre, almost like someone ripped out pages. Also, the ending was very abrupt. It was like "and he suddenly didn't have any psychological problems or hangups about commitment anymore so they lived happily ever after. The end."It is an easy book to read and can be read in less than a day. I really wish there were at least a couple more chapters to flesh out the story a bit more. I do really like Piper and Bastian's story. Oh and random and totally unimportant side note: the title and cover make zero sense to me.

On a break from his doctorate program, Bastian comes to Marietta to attend his sister’s wedding and ends up falling head over heals for the shy and blushing Piper.Taking over from her father, Piper is the music teacher in Marietta High. Born with a birthmark on her face and having endured childhood teasing and bullying, Piper maybe a successful and beautiful, but her history with the opposite sex has a lot of learning to be done. And Sebastian charms her pants off and they fall into an affair that is supposed to be temporary or can Bastian convince Piper into becoming the next Marietta bride?Dani Collins writes some really sweet love stories. I loved the fact that she gave her heroine a flaw that could happen to anyone. I admire the way she made Piper into this strong and independent woman, yet vulnerable and sensitive, wanting to be loved for who she is, a beauty inside out. Oh, she went to school, college and has become a high school music director/teacher just like her father. Her mother has been very protective of her, keeping her home doing other things when she might have been going out with friends or to the prom. There were reasons, but Piper still paid the price. In addition to being a teacher’s daughter, therefore kept out of anything that she might “tell on” fellow students about their activities, there is one other thing that has always been part of Piper’s life. She has a birthmark on the side of her face. And we all know how cruel children, teenagers and heck, even adults can be about someone that is in any way “different”.Now, at age 24, Piper has a life filled with doing things – ask her to do something for the school and her answer is usually “Yes.” Her one relationship was very much one sided in that she seemed to be the one doing the most giving – only to be dumped when no longer needed by the jerk. And one other detail. She’s still a virgin. That is something she would very much like to change. Piper is a beautiful lady, very insecure and unaware of her own attractiveness to the right man. Not every one of them is a jerk, but she still has to learn that.Piper’s parents are out of the country, and have emailed Piper letting her know that they have given permission for a fellow traveler to stay at their home for a few weeks. I am by no means a scripture scholar and have plenty more to learn.The author starts by explaining the origin of the term "slave" and how prevalent slavery has been throughout history. The title of the first chapter is "Servant Versus Slave in the New Testament" and he defines the original Greek words that were used in the New Testament that will give us new perspective as we begin to understand the servant/slave relationship.Later in the book, he discusses the slavery of sin and how it robs us of freedom and destroys our possibility of eternal life. When we are enslaved to sin, we become slaves of Satan and feel despair and hopelessness. As we willingly accept Christ's invitation to follow him, we become free and begin to feel joy, hope and so much more.The author shares plenty of scriptures which discuss the servant/slave relationship and I enjoyed his commentary on them. There's a Scripture Index included at the very end, along with a Bibliography and 32 pages of Endnotes.This book is thought-provoking. I learned more about service, sacrifice and my personal relationship with Christ. I feel like I'm still digesting what I learned from the first course and know that I will learn more each time I read it!I received a copy of this book to review. My opinion is 100% my own.

I think I could read it a lot of times and learn something new each time.I did not know all about the slavery at the time of Christ. How big it really was and what it all entailed. He talks about slavery in the Roman Empire, about the Christians and their slaves.How the slaves were not considered human beings by a lot of people.He also talks about the meaning of the words slavery and servant used by transcribers. What the words Jesus Christ meant when he was saying servants. How are commitment to him should be.How we can't serve two masters at a time.It opened a lot of windows in my mind and better understanding about some of the parables Jesus taught the people.I would read this again and other books by W. Reid Litchfield in the future.I was given this ebook to read by Cedar Fort Publishing and in return agreed to give honest review of Enslaved to Save and be part of it's blog tour.

About the Author Stefan Stenudd is a Swedish 7 dan Aikikai Shihan aikido instructor, former Vice Chairman of the International Aikido Federation, member of the Swedish Aikido Grading Committee, and President of the Swedish Budo & Martial Arts Federation. He is also an author, artist, and historian of ideas. He has published a number of books in Swedish and English, both fiction and non-fiction. Among the latter is an interpretation of the Chinese classic Tao Te Ching, and of the Japanese samurai classic Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi. His novels explore existential subjects from stoneage drama to science fiction, but lately stay more and more focused on the present. He has also written some plays for the stage and the screen. In the history of ideas he studies the thought patterns of creation myths, as well as Aristotle’s Poetics.

By Magnus Burman This book pinpoint aspects of Aikido training that is in some dojos neglected, the attack and how to perform it properly. In Aikido, being a peaceful martial art, focus is on the defensive techniques how to correctly avoid and lead the "opponents" attack away. On this topic there are numerous publications, books, videos, and youtube-clips available. To my knowledge no or very few discus the attack form since that is not Aikido. But in my opinion Aikido is a relation between the the "attacker" and the "defender". In order to perform the best Aikido both partners need to be at their best. However, I actually didn't realise that I missed a book on this topic before it landed in my mail box!In a clear, concise and well structured way Stefan guide us through all common attack forms practiced in Aikido dojos, grips, strikes, kicks, and weapon attacks. The book is filled with detailed descriptions on how to perform the attacks, together with discussions on the origin and purpose of the attack with reference to other martial arts (e.g. kendo, karate). The thorough descriptions are accompanied by plenty of photo illustrations which ads on to the clarity and the understanding.Independent on Aikido style, this book should be in the reference libary in any Aikido dojo.If I was required to propose improvements to this book I would only have one, print it on glossy paper ;-)

Good Guide on a little covered topic but Kindle version has problems By Reuben Stefan deals with a rarely covered topic and the topic of attacks and goes into great detail as to the mindset, techniques and the 'point' of the attack.Often in Aikido practice, the role of the tori/nage is often neglected leading to sloppy practice and furthermore we are puzzled with the unrealistic attacks we practice against. Stefan sheds some light on the issue by explaining its origins and the energy required for each attack while remaining true to traditional Aikido attacks.For instance some excerpts from Shomen-uchi:Shomenuchi is a strike to the top of tori's head, with an open hand. It is done as a symbol of a sword attack. It would not make much sense to hit a person's skull with the bare hand.Of course, the shomenuchi attack has no meaning when done with an unarmed hand. The head is hard, especially at the forehead, so there is no hand that can hit it without more damage being done to the hand than to tori's head. This is simply a way of training aikido in a safe way against the sword attack or any other armed attack to the head from above.He also deals with the less common attacks like bear hugs (kakaedori) from behind and elaborates on the particular challenges for tori and uke on certain attacks.In summary, this book is an excellent book for Aikido practitioners seeking to better understand their art but it may disappoint some hoping to learn 'Attack techniques' (which I would then suggest you look to another martial art) or like myself, Aikido solutions to more common street attacks. Having been in a few scuffles and training Aikido for 16-17 years or so, the attacks of uke in Aikido do little to prepare you against the fast and unpredictable nature of these attacks which usually do not stop with one or two attacks or the stress involved when you're taken out of a dojo environment. Even so, the book's contents cannot be faulted as it is simply teaching Aikido for what it is.I would easily give this book a four stars as it does what it sets out to do well with good illustrations. The only reason I gave it a 3 stars was the Kindle version seemed to have many photos missing which detracted from my enjoyment of the book and left me feeling a bit upset since I wasn't getting the whole book.

Nothing more, nothing less. A useful tool. I'd say it is particularly useful for people somewhat familiar with marital arts, especially the one of its subject. It would not reveal much to a newbie, because there are things to know to understand, what the author is talking about. On the other hand an expert marital artist would or at least should know the most of the material covered. Which leads us to Aikido student to gain the largest benefit out of it. Knowing principles of attacks really helps, that is.Also people not that familiar to English should also have a fair chance of reading this book after adding a few new words to their vocabulary.My thanks to author who gave the possibility to read a unique dense material free of non-related literal crap. There are times, you have to read some chapter twice or more to uncover all the detail. Thanks Stefan, it is a good book.

Loved it By Barb Massabrook Fabulous Author Joanne Wadsworth does it again in book 2 of her wonderful time travel paranormal Mattheson Brothers series. This is an exceptional page turner and again another fabulous book, that you won't be able to put down . This New Zealand author is a fantastic and unique storyteller that I highly recommend!Setting...Scotland, 1210The Matheson Brothers triplets know as the power of three sent back in time as to when the Matheson Clan began. The brothers mission is to find their soul mates and destiny to save their future clan to continue to exist to save from extinction. This book is about Matheson brother, a Highland shifter , that can shift into bear form called Finlay and the heroine in this story is about Arabel a Fae who has the fire wielding ability the thing is she fears getting too close to Finlay as she is afraid she will kill him as she still hasn't been able to control her power and fears she will kill Finlay. As she can feel Finlay as she has a lot of powers and with the help with another of her kind and their combined power can make Finlay believe each time they meet it is the first time. The problem is each time Finlay meets Arabel he falls completely in love with her yet after each meeting he forgets her which begone to be very frustrating to Finlay.There is also a fair share of villains and evil in this story one plans to distroy Arabel village and Finlay being the food and honorable man he is knows time is of the essence to save and protect his beloved Arabel as well as her people. So Finlay knows he has to figure a way for he and Arabel to be together for love and to save both all the people they care about, their families and friends, as well as each other. The problem is how can they do this without dying! Finlay fears loosing Arabel from her enemiesBtho want to distroy and have been killing people from her village. Now as for Arabel who can't seem to get a hold of her emotions! She fears killing Finlay with her own fire wielding power that she could always control until recently.Fate can be a very cruel mistress what is to happen to this ill fated couple where doom seem to be coming at every direction? You the reader will have to read this spectacular book to find the results and what other adventure and drama this ill fated couple have to endure.Another spectacular read that Ms. Wadsworth pens with that golden pen of her! I absolutely loved this brilliant storyline filled with so much action packed adventure, mystery, suspense, drama and even a few giggles at some humorous scenes and of course the romance and love. Of course who doesn't love a visit to historic Scotland? I could nearly feel the chill from the winds near the loch, smell the sweet scented heather while tripping over some thistles doing some frolicking up a mountain!I can't praise this book enough as it is definitely one for the keeper shelf. I loved Highland Passion as I did with Highland Desire book one of the Matheson Brother series and can't wait for Kirk's story in Highlander's Seduction. These men need to use their warrior skills to save the neighboring village from attack. Meanwhile Finlay feels that his mate is near. He has spent five years searching for her. He will be successful. He and his brothers must find their destined mates to ensure that their clan doesn't become extinct. Arabel lives in this time. She is fae-blooded and a fire-wielder. If she lost control of her gift, it could be deadly to her lover. That is why she must never mate, but these two are destined to be together. Can they find away? Arabel is a feisty, independent woman. I loved that she has the strength to put her happiness aside to protect her fierce shifter. Finlay knows that this beauty is meant for him. He's a proud warrior who wants his lady. Both he and his bear need her, but magic and her gift are keeping them apart. The story is amazing. I loved the passion and romance as Arabel and Finlay explored their love. The giant is a tender lover and the lady is eager to be with him. Joanne Wadsworth has written an incredible story that is filled with history, the paranormal and a passion romance. The Matheson Brothers are a force to be reckoned with as our their ladies. I love westerns and this one was one of the best! There was mystery, suspense, drama, and lots of spankings, oh just everything! The best part was Josh and SueNell got married before the book was half finished so you got to see how their married life was. Also her brother, Hob, was also a big part of the book and he also had a girlfriend who needed spankings. It was a really good book with a great length! Will read again. A 5 star read!

This book offers danger, suspense, mystery, romance and love and I enjoyed it from page one until the very end. Josh and SueNell have a complicated history and their journey has it's ups and downs but what a fun ride! Great story here and a fun read! I received this book from Stormy Night Publications as an Advanced Reader Copy.

I always love a good cowboy / rodeo story and this one doesn't disappoint By romancereader I always love a good cowboy / rodeo story and this one doesn't disappoint. Siena Remington makes more than a token appearance in this book; as the best friend of the heroine, Louise, she plays a prominent role as Louise travels to Texas. This book flows comfortably and is a quick read. I really enjoyed the Texas setting. I appreciated that Louise is willing to spend time with Brady even though she believes he'd wronged her as a child. After the number of years in New York, I somewhat expect Louise to be "snobby" about Texas. But Louise embraces Texas and her history, which makes her a refreshing character. I love Brady too. I love to see when a guy is "knocked off his feet" by a woman, or in Brady's case, knocked off his horse. I audibly gasped when his rodeo competition was cut short because Brady couldn't focus after seeing Louise. But he knows what he wants and he isn't afraid to pursue it. I like how he even considers how he can make things work in New York to be with Louise.It's hard to tell you my favorite part of the story without giving away a spoiler, but I can just tell you that just when the reader believes the heroine has made the wrong decision, you hear a story that makes you smile. I didn't see it coming but love how the author weaves the story in and makes the reader believe the story is heading one direction when in reality it is headed the opposite. I love that literary construct and it really made the book for me.There is no intimacy in this book but I didn't miss it. The hero and heroine were authentic and the lack of sex in the book was actually realistic considering the context and timeline of the story.Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A rootin' tootin' raucous read! By Lynnie-Loo This was a fabulous read and Melissa Storm had me chuckling from Chapter One. Brady is a wonderful character with great comedic value. He is a rodeo rider and is a one for the ladies, but when he spies his high school sweetheart Louise 'Weezy' back in town he is determined to make up for his past mistakes. Louise is a lawyer in New York and is only back in town briefly to settle her late Aunts estate. Will they be able to come to terms with what happened in the past and move on...as friends, or maybe something more? You'll have to read it to find out. Siena Remington of Flames of Love appears in this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it.

For this reason I was not sure what to expect. A Texas Kind of Love proved to be just my type of story. Short, sweet and with a great deal of emotional depth. Ms. Storm created a story full of strong characters, life lessons and emotion all in one little package.
