By NavyWave62 This isn't your normal highland paranormal book - it is filled with darkness - the title is spot on!!This author is amazing, and this series could be one of her best. There is a great connection between our H/h that when they come together, you feel the love and passion.I loved the beauty and the beast theme, but it is such a unique take. There is so much suspense, love, sadness, twists, heartache, joy, intrigue and so much more.I am not going into the premise of the story, as other's have explained it, but there is HEA, no cliffhanger for our H/h, but if you want to see if the evil is taken care of, or about the brother, we'll need to read the next book in the series. There is lovemaking - but only a few times.The way this author writes, you could feel the fear at times, and I could feel the forest and the evil there. Great story!! (ljb)

By Lorrie First off, I'd like to admit up front that I read medieval romance novels most of the time. When I want to switch it up, I'll purchase paranormal or vampire books. This book had all three. It was a little weird for me, I have to admit. There's highlanders, werewolves, vampires, and a sprinkling of the fae. Although I don't think they should all go together, the book was still written well and it was believable. The book reveals a few twists along the way that you wouldn't predict, so I liked that. If I had a preference though, I'd keep the highlanders and the fae separate from the werewolves, etc.

Naked Flame By Evampire The last thing either Charity Vance or Liam Douglas is looking for is a relationship but pretty soon they are burning up the sheets until a drug lord threatens Charity in this heart warming contemporary romance.Strong compelling characters that capture the heart with their scarred pasts draw the reader in and refuse to let go and the fast paced and smooth flowing plot captivates readers with suspense and lots of red hot passion. Charity and Liam's burning desire for each other takes them and the readers by storm with some hot and steamy sex scenes but since neither is prepared for a relationship the romance is on shaky ground.A dangerous drug lord adds lots of excitement to the story not only by threatening Charity's life but her relationship with Liam as well and the well written scenes capture the imagination while the well orchestrated events ensure that there is never a dull moment.I was completely caught up in this quick and heartwarming story and while I haven't read the previous books in this series I am certainly going to be taking care of that as I am now curious about the captivating characters of this intriguing town.

By Marci (Soul of the Single Lady) So the moment that I finished, "Big Girl Panties (Like A Lady Part 1)" I was chomping at the bit to get read part 2. Especially, because the first installment ended in a major cliffhanger. But I must say the it was well worth the wait. I absolutely adore Scarlett (Red) and Mason's story, thus far. In HYC, you Lear a little more about their past, especially Mason's and his connection with Mary Lou. We also get to finally meet his sister, the friend that Red missed dearly.HYC is fun, relatable, well written and though part 2 ends with yet another cliffhanger, it is an enjoyable read with a great storyline with characters that are intricately weaved in each other's lives.I absolutely loved characters. Maybe because they are a throwback to my high school years. Mary Lou has a vibrant thirst for life and the friend you know is going to get you in a lot of "good trouble", but you don't mind going along for the ride. I cannot wait to see what becomes of her character in part three. She deserves something sweet. I just hope her past doesn't come back to jeopardize her friendships.I love the chemistry between Mason and Red. In BGP, there was a heightened anticipation for them to connect, and in book two, they finally do and it's magic... kismet.This is recommended read... 5 STARS! Can't wait for book three.

By Stephenee * I received an ebook in exchange for an honest review. *You must have read book 1 to understand what is going on in book 2! This is not a stand alone book. If you are looking to read book 2 there is no reason that you haven't read book 1 - it was just as amazing as this one!Just when I thought that I couldn't possibly enjoy this book as much as the first one, author S.J. Sawyer proves me wrong! She has taken the characters that the reader loves from book one and makes the reader love them even more in book two. I didn't think that Mary Lou could get any funnier or that Mason could get even more swoon worthy, but they did and the author keeps the laughs coming right alongside of the drama.So in this book we get to meet Melanie, Mason's sister - and she brings some drama along with her. She used to be best friends with Red and something happened that Red doesn't know about or understand. We also get to spend time with our favorite characters, Mason and Red, Monroe and Mary Lou, and Preston and Emerson as well as our least favorite, Jake. The author develops the relationships a bit more and we get to see more of the dynamics of the characters as we spend time with them at the fair, the bakery and just hanging out in town.Mason and Red both tell their side of the story in the present and in the past and it is so much fun for the reader to see how they have both been in love with each other for years but neither one knew how to act on that love. The story flies by and the reader is finished long before they want to be. The action and flow of the book is a non-stop roller coaster ride that leaves the reader breathless when they get to the cliffhanger of an ending.I am looking forward to more time with these characters and can't wait for the third book to come out! Make sure you catch up on book 1 and 2 so that you are ready for book 3 in June!! I love everything about this series and can't wait to read more! Heart broken, feeling undervalued in the band, he just wants his bandmates to leave him the hell alone and let him drink himself into oblivion.I swear my heart broke over and over in the first 15% of this book. Seriously, every time I think, "oh it will get better now"... BAM right in the feels again!Then Melody storms into his life. She is just as broken, just as Sean is.There is an instant spark between them, though great is meant to be easy. And man, do this pair make things hard! We are taken on such an emotional rollercoaster.Just as we think that things are going to start going right for our lovelies, something comes along and rips it all away. Well, they do/say something to rip it all away. I just wanted to slap their heads together, tell them to stop effing things up. They imperfections make them perfect for each other.So, can they pull their fingers out and make a go of this thing, or will they keep up this pull/push thing they are doing?Nope, for that you will have to read for yourself.I loved that we got more of the Reckless Beat boys and their lovely ladies. The gut wrenching, heartbreaking, pit in my stomach reads are my favorite. Sean and Melody’s story flipped a switch for me. I’m not sure why, and I’m not sure how, but I’m so glad it got to me as much as it did. That’s not to say that’s all this book was. I mean, it’s the Reckless Beat men. They are dirty talking, foul-mouthed, sexy as hell, and stubborn as hell, and they make each and every book the gems that they are. SULTRY GROOVE was clever, hilarious, and extremely enjoyable, helping me laugh through the tears. So get ready to experience every emotion possible while diving into this great read.A profoundly emotional story that had me distracted for hours on end. A story that hit close to home, surprised me, delighted me, and moved me. Eden Summers had me under her spell in Sultry Groove, so much so, that I never wanted it to end. The woman he feels should have been his is engaged to his best friend, and they both seem oblivious to his pain while he tries to put on a brave face. Fake it til you make it should be his new motto. But he is sick of being passed over, whether it is via the lack of recognition for his contributions to the band or by the women who just want to use him to get to the his other more popular (although now very taken) bandmates.Melody may just be the hope and distraction he is searching for although he falls far from the mark of making a good first impression. What he doesn't realize is that he may be just what she needs too. Melody has had a rough year to say the least and Sean is throwing up all kinds of danger signs to her senses, but they have noticeable chemistry right from the start and she can't deny the urge to let go a little bit when it comes to the sexy drummer. She hasn't had a real relationship in years, and most of the time her relationships were more physical than emotional. He is just looking for someone to call his own, someone who will see him for the person he is rather than a stepping stone or name on a page.These two are a stumbling mess of nerves, anxiety and saying the wrong thing more often than not, but yet somehow they are just right together and have the ability to set the sheets (and any other available surface) on fire! Now they just have to figure out how to get on the same page outside the bedroom. Melody is certain that no one will ever be able to look at her with anything other than disgust due to her injury especially when the shallow jerks she used to call friends gave her no reason to think otherwise, and Sean becomes increasingly frustrated that she won't confide in him even though his own verbal communication skills suck. Non verbal communication is a whole separate beast though- he most certainly has that covered hands down!Although they each found ways to frustrate me over the course of the story, Melody made me feel the need to reach into the pages and shake her repeatedly until her head settled back onto her shoulders properly. I was right there with her sister in being unable to understand how deeply she let her injury rule her life, but in an industry where the appearance of perfection is everything, I guess I can see it. As for Sean, he was a basic guy most of the time in thoughts and actions, but he had a wonderful depth of emotions beneath it all and was inherently likable throughout the book. My heart broke for him and I was thrilled when he finally gave Sidney and Mason the brutally honest truth about their "help" they so greatly needed in my opinion! There may have been actual fist pump involved and all!The rest of the band and their ladies are included as well although Ryan plays a larger part than the others in this book. His life is starting to disintegrate before his eyes and he is unable to stop it even as he falls deeper into the bottle. But I love how the guys all come together whether it is to support Ryan or to help Melody fight past her fears. I love this series and definitely recommend it!

Although in the middle it seemed to drag for a while but overall it is good. Plot and characters are well written. I'd definitely recommend this book to all historical romance lovers.Gareth Ramsey is a spy. He is supposed to be on a secret mission but Lady Jane Stanwell keeps distracting him. She is a widow in search of a lover, she seeks adventure and pleasure. Gareth is more than willing to fulfill Lady's desires but his duty is standing in the way. There is instant attraction between the two. But they are reluctant to trust each other. This book has it all, romance, intrigue, adventure and a little mystery. I really liked reading it.

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Boring Characters, Boring Story, 21st Century Dialogue By arc This book is boring and is pretty much a rehash of the last one "A Spy Unmasked." The stories are a bit different but both involved jaded bitter men who are part time barristers and part time spies. They get involved with women who are also rather guarded and not very bright. The attraction is based almost solely on sex. There is minimal character development and secondary characters are entirely one dimensional. The dialogue is twenty-first century which is a major annoyance for me. The transformation of both characters from being opposed to marriage to being committed to it is based solely on her unexpected pregnancy and is so complete and jarring it is unbelievable. Finally, and this isn't the only book this happens in, but aristocratic and upper class men of the era did not participate in their wive's labor and delivery. They didn't even do that well into the 20th century. I'd wish authors would stop using that as a quick, cheap device to demonstrate the men's devotion, strength, fear and forward thinking. It's like the modern dialogue and also very annoying. Most of the author's earlier books were okay to good right through the first two barrister books but I don't think I'll be reading any more of hers.

Readers will find meditative breathing among these techniques, a method that is so simple and takes very little time out of the day to practice. I found that these small tips can make big changes in a hectic life, and recommend this guide to anyone struggling with overcoming rash behavior or needing a little help when it comes to self-awareness and putting a name to their thoughts and feelings.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Comfort Reading By Deborah This series is comfort reading at its best. Seriously, I wish I had a grandmother like Charlotte and a farm to live at. Oh I know there would be chores to be done so it wouldn't be an easy life, but I think the benefits would totally outweigh those. Reading this book is very comforting and makes me feel like I'm part of the family and am an insider into their lives. Sean's search for his father was very moving and I was glad with the ending and look forward to hearing more about it in future books. You know it's good writing when you are rooting for both the cautious grandparents who want to protect their grandchildren from the outside world AND the rebellious grand kids and hoping they get their way at the same time. I could side with both Charlotte and Sean throughout this book. I could see where each one was getting at and I agreed and disagreed with both their actions. It's very rare for me to do this, I normally only can relate to one character especially when it involves an older authority vs. younger generation. Half the time I'm either getting angry with the adults for being too strict or getting annoyed with the teens for being too bratty. However Tricia's writing made me see both sides of the story and helped me to feel for both characters. Oh and there is a LOT of food mentioned in this story. Almost as much as a Mitford book! Do not read this book while you are eating, because you're going to eat almost everything in sight while reading! But the food mentioned is delicious sounding and I only wish I had a grandmother that cooked like that for me! I really love this series, it's probably THE best series that Guideposts has put out. If you haven't gotten a chance to read any of them, they are a MUST read. Tricia's additions to the series have simply been wonderful and I really like how her contemporary books have turned out. Even if you haven't read any of the other books in the series, you will enjoy this book and definitely want more! I can't wait til the next one!!!

He did not feel that he really belonged and just wanted to feel connected to what was comfortable when his mother was alive. Her sudden threw everything upside down and no one comfortable with anyone. The children were not used to farm life, so they just rebelled. By never having spent any time getting to know their grandparents before it was like they were all just thrown together as complete strangers. Sam felt since he had spent the most time, his father would just accept him with open arms as he had often dreamed. All he felt he had to do was find his father and everything would fall into place. He planned his journey, but in his quest , he never took the time to think things through first. Also, he never tried to open up to either of his,grandparents about his feelings and how much he missed his old lifestyle. But, when he arrived at the place of his father's,last known address, he was once again disappointed to find out that his father had once again moved on. When his grandparents learned of his leaving, all they could think of was just finding him and getting him out of the bad weather. When they found him, they let him complete his journey, never belittling him for the mistakes he made. This opened up the door to them to be better able to finally communicate and see what he truly was feeling. It brought them all closer and finally showed Sam thar his grandparents really loved him and really wanted all three children with them, no matter the cost. The grandparents' deep faith in God had carried them and always brought them through every situation. Deep faith,trust, patience, and the much prayer has guided them always.

He is dealing with 1st birthday without his mom and trying to find his long missing dad and finding "home". These stories get better and better.

A Nice Enjoyable Mystery By Cindy's Book Binge received this book for free from Escape With Dollycas Virtual Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.The best part of the book for me was the budding romance between Ben and Lindsay. I really enjoyed reading about their awkward start to dating and getting to know each other, parts of that made me actually laugh out loud! The mystery part of the book was okay for me and there were a lot of red herrings. The plot was well written and I liked reading about investigative reporting and the newsroom. Lindsay has so many mishaps and close calls in this book and it was a fast paced plot which kept me interested. I still, in the end, will have to say that the romance part of the book was really the most enjoyable part of the book.

I really enjoyed the Miranda Vaughn series and decided to give this one a whirl. I really appreciate the way Ms. Ashe describes her characters. It is easy to relate to the characters, and you find yourself really pulling for them in the end. This story revolves around a reporter and a lawyer who end up working together to uncover some shady government dealings. Of course they fall in love, but not before hitting a couple roadblocks in their relationship. The plot is fairly complex, but yet easy to follow. I can't wait for book two!!

This is the first in a new series by Ellie Ashe (next to her Miranda Vaughn-series of which I have read Chasing the Dollar).Lindsey Fox is a newspaper reporter. For the last 6 months she has been receiving strange phone calls, she is being followed etc. but unfortunately her colleagues and her editor think she is a drama queen. She has been on one date with lawyer Ben Gillespie and it ended disastrous when she accidentally sprayed him with mace, thinking him to be an attacker.When Lindsey is thrown in a holding cell on a bogus contempt charge Ben is appointed to help her get out of jail. Hence they meet again after months. After Ben sees someone following and chasing Lindsey he saves her and brings her home.I thought it refreshing that Ben is not just a suave, handsome rich lawyer. He has student loans and actually hates his job but hopes to make partner so he can pay off his loans. He is impressed by Lindseys love and passion for her job and decides to help her after they realize her troubles stem from the article she wants to write about the proposed building of a sports stadium.Lindsey and Ben are attracted to each other, but their relationship is only part of this rather intricate story. Intricate in the sense that it revolves about financing, bonds, swaps and contracts and politics. It is not just a fast, easy read. I can normally read a book in a couple of hours but this one took me a lot longer.In conclusion I can say that I enjoyed the book very much and am looking forward to the next in the series. After reading the next Miranda Vaughn of course (Dropping the Dime).

If you like this kind of bear shifter, I recommend reading the first 4 saw bear stories first, then the first fire bears story, then this on. That said, this is a stand-alone happy ever after for a bear shifter and a human woman.The bear shifters are not out to human society in general at the start of the story, but a shady organization someone aligned with the US government knows about them and blackmails them to do what they are told by the organization. A truly horrible woman from that organization is trying to get our hero to do something for her that would be very bad if it happened.Bear shifters are very family oriented. Our bear shifter family members are the third generation to serve their town as heroic firefighters, and have served heroically in our military, too.Dade is our hero, and his past of being blackmailed and harmed by the pseudo-government agency has made him closed off emotionally, until he meets our lovely human heroine. He realizes she is his mate, but he is afraid to get close to her because that would put her at risk of harm by the bad guys. So she is left thinking one second they have a connection, and the next second that he is a major jerk.The horrible woman causes such harm to the heroine that he chooses to make her a bear to get the super-fast healing, but he has to do it in front of onlookers, and the humans around them freak out. Some of the humans seem to forget they have known the men and their family for years, and suddenly act stupid, as if the bear shifters are going to attack people.They have a lot to deal with, being chased by the evil government agency and protested against by the freaked-out humans, but they act with restraint and courage.The heroine's thought processes as she deals with the cute guy, the attack, becoming a bear, becoming a mate, and dealing with protesters and haters made a lot of sense to me. Of course, you have to consider that bears have fated mates and she has met hers, so the romance is culminated really fast, with some hot sexy times to follow.The heroes thought processes made even more sense to me, and it made me really like him, too.I really like the story and all the books in both series. Of course, I love these serials that each have a happy ever after for a couple, while fitting in to an overall plot, and I love that we get to see more of the lives of the other couples in each book.

Joyce is book two in the Fire Bear series. Dade and Quinn's story is filled with so many unexpected surprises that you will not know what hit you. I truly enjoyed learning more about what made the youngest brother tick and how once he met his match he was defiantly a goner! This book also delves into how difficult it is for some to accept the unique differences in others. Prejudice is not an easy issue to address, but Ms. Joyce is without a doubt up to it!As the youngest Dade Leland Keller is the brother that doesn't feel. He locked his emotions up a long time ago and opening that can of worms would cause way too many complications in his life. When he meets the shy, sensitive Quinn, all bets are off. He fights his bear, warring with his animal because of the instability of their future. It is not one he wants anyone to endure. But, when evil returns to Breckenridge a horrific event occurs leaving permanent scars and the Keller family scrambling.This is a spoiler free review, and with that said, Dade and Quinn made my heart hurt, leap with joy, and hope that all the shifters preserve and the bad people would get what they so rightly deserve. A fantastic ending is waiting for you - read this book and enjoy an adventure created by T.S. Joyce that will pull you into the world of bear shifters!

By Amazon Customer Dade Keller met the beautiful veterinarian Quinn Copeland when he took the firehouse mascot Tank for his annual ckeck-up, Dade found Quinn having a bad day and he couldn't help but being drawn to her....there was an instant attraction between them.Quinn awokened Dade's bear leaving the shifter wondering what the heck was happening to him and why did his inner beast chose now to choose a mate when the Brew Crew is facing a load of problems?....then again when love happens it doesn't ask when, why and who the heart's chooses.What Dade thought was bad timing regarding meeting Quinn ended up being perfect timing, they both complemented each other.....Dade soon found out that Quinn wasn't as fragile as he thought when a life changing event took place and they had to face some obstacles. Quinn finally found where she was meant to be with Dade and the Brew Crew.Shayna was one piece of work seriously she let someone turned her just so she could rebuild the secret government agency IESA and continue the reproduction of the Kellers' bloodline, thank goodness Dade didn't give in to her treats.....What a sociopath? She finally got hers.T. S Joyce did it again, Bear The Burn was marvelous......Dade and Quinn were destined to be. It was great to have some of the characters from the Werebear series crossover into the Fire Bears series.

Definitely not as much as the first book, for a couple of reasons.First, it's way too short. The first book was an entire novel, this one wasn't even 200 pages. Yet still cost the typical price for a full novel. Secondly, Savannah was beyond annoying in this book. I didn't hate her character, but I was rolling my eyes and saying "really?" Several times. It seemed a bit juvenile to me.So as much as I LOVED the first book, the second one was a bit flat for me. Would i still recommend it...yes! Because you couldn't have made me quit reading after book #1. But honestly, this ending didn't catch me and get me all knotted up like the last one. I think the author would have been better to just continue the story in this book and finish the series. I still loved the characters, annoying and all. But it was a typical 2nd book in a series for me...not as exciting and kind of repetitive. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't read it if you read the first book. Just don't except to be blown away again. At least for me. There were also several spelling mistakes and word mix ups.

When the American finally got Savannah, she had broken ribs and then he proceeded to strangle her to the point that she needed CPR. Her heart stopped and she wasn't breathing. Then she had CPR on broken ribs. Was she taken to a hospital when her love, Cole, rescued her? Nope. She went back to the Shadows, went to her room to change her clothes and then came downstairs for dinner. This was so preposterous, I had to stop reading and didn't finish. I'll be returning Mended because this trilogy just turned ridiculous.

Very expected plotting made this sort of boring By Mady Rivas Mild spoilersThis book had the some of the same annoying problems as the first book - a decent writing style for the heroine (1st person present tense) that fell apart when we see the hero's POV (3rd person present tense is NOT her forte); bad word choices for American Special Forces vets; and lazy thinking on the part of these special forces (really, Savi told Cole about the Louisiana style house and he FORGOT??). The plot went down the path of least resistance - you knew she would get recaptured from the start - and the cliffhanger was not all that dramatic. It wasn't all that long, but I found myself skipping some boring parts.Savi was more annoying than in the first book (she is a vomit machine once again). The men are still very well done, and I like that Cole keeps getting caught making stupid mistakes because of his "protect her by withholding information" strategy in dealing with Savi. I am hoping that in book 3 this smart guy actually learns that trusting your partner will lead to a better relationship.

All too often therapists write a book for the general public in which they create a sanitized clinical work or those who are in recovery will write a journey of their own struggles from a non clinical perspective. Rarely, does a therapist/mental health professional lay bare their own personal struggle, shedding professional distance and intermingle unapologetic honesty of their human struggle. Inge offers the reader a journey through her life and struggle and does so with such courage and transparency that allows others to stop hiding from the shame of their own journey and begin to embody their own pain, shame and isolation. The dept of honesty she delves into sharing her own life offer others going through similar struggles a place to feel understood and accepted without judgement. We cannot offer true healing to those with eating disorders if every book on the subject hides behind the realities and struggles with professional distance. Inge is the real deal and her book offers those struggling to recover from eating disorders the courage to face their own unimaginable pain and those on the outside a clear honest window into the inner struggle of someone with eating disorders, from someone has done the deep work of self understanding, self reflection and embodiment. There are more than enough self help books and sanitized professional ego serving books on the subject of eating disorders. In her raw honesty, Inge offers something different and invaluable. Clients I have shared it with have found deeply moving and healing reflections of themselves in her work.
