For the first time ever, I actually slammed my e-reader closed and throw it on my bed. I was upset with Mitch Bradford that I went into a ten minute rant calling him every name in the book. Lexi Blake foreshadowed my future rant from the beginning, "You wouldn't think that if you saw how (upset) she gets at fictional characters. The woman yells at her e-reader. She threw it across the room the other day and her only explanation was that someone named Joshua Lake was being a butthead." After I finished my rant, ate some ice cream, I jumped back into the story and cheered on our heroine, Laurel, for being the bigger person. I love when authors compel us into emotional outbursts. Usually I cry or sulk when I'm reading romances. This story took me to the next level.Laurel Daley is Mitch Bradford's paralegal and also his best friend's sister. They are both mutually attracted to each other, ask Mitch's penis. Mitch however would not claim Laurel He felt "He was too old for her. He was too rough and hard for her. She was a kid starting out and he'd run through all his chances." Mitch had been married twice before and after the divorce he was forced to start over again.Laurel pursued Mitch all the way to Sanctum (a BDSM club he attend) but it was a bullet flying scare that drove them momentarily together. Things quickly went bad and Laural decided to move on. "There wasn't some soft Mitchell Bradford waiting under the surface. All of that had been spent on his two ex-wives, and all that was left for Laurel was a man who meant it when he said he didn't want another commitment, didn't want to even try to love her."When Laurel discovers she has a permanent tie to Mitch, they move forward with their relationship however there is danger lurking around every corner. Can their relationship move forward even with Mitch's insecurities and resistance to change? It's Laurel, with a little help from her body guard, who is the bigger person and keeps their relationship on track. She also helps Mitch become reacquainted with his brothers, who needed him. Mitch is a stubborn turd most of the time but in the end he redeems himself. I cannot wait for Master No, Masters and Mercenaries, Book 9 by Lexi Blake. This will be Tennessee Smith's story. I really need this story!

Except that Ms. Blake is an evil writer who put something into the epilogue that makes me want the next book NOW NOW NOW NOW! Although that's not exactly an unusual feeling for me whenever I read her writing. But still. I WANT IT NOOOOOW!Enough of that though - this book. Adored.Mitch is one of those frustrating heroes that's all closed up inside emotionally and you just want to kick him, but he has such good reasons for being guarded that you also want to pet him and tell him that everything's going to be okay. On top of that, he's a sexy and demanding Dom that makes you want to drop your panties.I loved Laurel. She was an exceptionally strong heroine, one who had the guts to walk away when she needed to and - even more important - to stand her ground when the stakes were high. So many books have the hero chasing after the heroine after he messes up, and it's good to see the groveling, but in a relationship not everything can be high drama and "we're over" as soon as there's a fight. Both people have to be willing to fight FOR the relationship when the fight is over, despite their pride, despite their hurt... and Laurel is strong enough to do that and to show Mitch how a relationship SHOULD be. All he has to do is be deserving of that. There's some danger, some twists and turns, plenty of humor, just a little bit of Ian's delightful relationship advice, and some new characters that have me super curious. Speaking of adoration, I really hope Kai gets his own book or novella eventually (although, like most of her novellas, Adored is more like a short book than a true novella) because listening to him talk about women and relationships... ha! His theories are sound, but he's obviously lacking in some practical experience =DAnd, when you get to the epilogue, you'll probably curse Ms. Blake for not having the next book ready immediately. There's a reason she's an automatic-buy author for me, and I have not been disappointed yet.

Just a treat to read By Shauni Originally Reviewed For: Tea and BookThe 1001 Dark Nights Series offers a unique opportunity for authors to showcase a favorite series, share their secrets and seduce the readers. Each book is connected only by the fact that the author has written a novella and considers it a story that Scheherazade might have told (I don't know that but it sounds right since this series is loosely based on the Arabian Nights). But for me, these tales are ones that could be told in the darkest nights, whispers of romance and desire, Masters and Monsters, Decadence and Dragons, Dreams and Desires.Today's whisper that roared is another by Lexi Blake. Ms. Blake takes us back to the members of Sanctum and her Masters and Mercenaries Series. Masters and Mercenaries is an erotic, BDSM Series but as the series develops it's less obvious in it's BDSM. Oh it's there, we are aware of it but often it's just background information. The stories themselves drive the books.. It's a sensual tease.Adored is a novella that runs parallel to the main story arc. It is more focused on the club or rather the members of the club rather than the employees of the McKay-Taggart Security Services. Pretty much all of the novellas are based around the club rather than the company.. but they do connect.Laurel Daley by nature is a people pleaser.. she can't help it it's who she is but as her brother opens up about his lifestyle, Laurel also realizes that she's a submissive and wants to learn more about it. She also dreams of calling her pain in the ass, arrogant, afraid of change boss her Master. Only he's pushing her away as hard as he can. When she finally has a chance to connect with him, she is devastated when he once again pushes her away. Only this time, a baby is involved.Mitch Bradford is a wounded man. A harsh childhood, two broken marriages and finally he's given up on love. He knows that sweet Laurel is attracted to him and he really really returns the attraction but he feels she deserves better than a broken man ten years her senior. But when they finally have sex and he pushes her away, poor Mitch is all but lost. Discovering she is pregnant brings her back into his life and maybe, just maybe Mitch will get it right.*SIGH* this was one of those books. The ones you roll your eyes at, cheer for the heroine, yell at the hero, laugh at the secondary characters... It's fun, it's sexy and it's pretty much right on target. Mitch is in his late 30's (39) and feels like a two time looser, Laurel is in her late 20's and doesn't see being twice divorced as a detriment.. Now that is a true generational fact..But there is so much more in this book. Mitch has reasons for his fear of change and he has to face them if he ever wants a life with Laurel..And well, I wanted to smack Laurel's family. Honestly close or not I would be smacking any member of my family that invaded my life the way they did hers. But it was real, emotional and believable. The secondary story was intense in and of itself but it also worked wonderfully to bring these two together.Another great job by Ms. Blake.Shauni
