The shy farmer busy earning a living and watching a girl at church that he is smitten with. He sees the girl in her family Mercantile store and loves her from afar. He is too shy to talk to her. After two years, he gets dressed up and ventures to town where there is a barn dance. He does manage to ask her for a dance. Basically scared of those around her, he does ask to walk with her after church. It is a cute story of innocence that is lost in modern times. It is a short story that can be read in an afternoon. I'm sure as this author progresses she will give her characters more depth. Thanks for a nice storyline, Ms. Turner.

Once I started reading, I was hooked and needed to know the end so was up well past my usual sleep time. The author Genevieve Turner truly captured and protrayed the love, honor and duty of a daughter during the time period. Laura was willing to throw away her newfound love because she felt a duty to her parents. I believe this was the usual practice of all families back when our country was young. The author also has the sister-in-law say a few things that puts the reader to really thinking. I really enjoyed this read.,

Laura lives with her parents, brother and sister-in-law in the living quarters behind the family's mercantile. The daily routine of caring for her parents is both a hardship and sense of duty for Laura. Factor in Laura's stunning, and snooty, best friend, and one can easily sympathize with Laura's hunger for time to herself. When local farmer Marcus suddenly comes courting, Laura agrees to exchange a rare afternoon of freedom to accompany him for a walk, and discovers there's more to Marcus than his penchant for growing potatoes.Ms. Turner is a new author to me and I have to say, I enjoyed her work immensely. Laura is very kindhearted, the type of girl you can't help but hope will find a silver lining and happy ending to the burdens she carries. Marcus is so shy, and the sweetest of guys; watching him squirm to string together two words to say to Laura will melt your heart. These two are clearly meant for each other, and will tug at your heartstrings as they doubt, hope and doggedly forge a path to a happy-ever-after. I look forward to reading Ms. Turner's other works.
